"Over tens of thousands of years, our ancient ancestors all over the world
discovered how to maximize human abilities of mind and spirit for healing
and problem solving. The remarkable system of methods they developed is
today known as 'shamanism,' a term that comes from a Siberian tribal
word for its practitioners: 'Shaman' (pronounced SHAH-mahn). Shamans
are a type of medicine man or woman especially distinguished by the use
of journeys to hidden worlds otherwise mainly known through myth, dream,
and near-death experiences." (Michael Harner, FSS.org)

Shamanic healing addresses the spiritual aspect of illness.
Loss of power may result in depression, persistent illness, or
misfortunes. The Shaman journeys to restore lost power.
This often involves discovering power animals that have
left and convincing them to return or discovering new power
animals seeking to help.
Sometimes a piece or pieces of the soul are lost or given
away through trauma, emotional entanglements, accidents,
or experiencing disaster in various forms. Soul loss mani-
fests as depression, sadness, that sense of 'something
missing', and some chronic physical discomfort or illness.
It can prevent us from creating healthy relationships and
living the life we wish to live. The Shamanic ceremony is
called Soul Retrieval.
When a person has experienced power and/or soul loss,
s/he may take on unhealthy energies that cause localized
dis-ease in the body and establishes obstacles to the spirit.
Shamanic Extraction is a ceremony of healing wherein
the Shaman locates and removes these harmful energies
from the body.
Shamanic healing does not replace the need for traditional
psychological and medical treatment. The Shaman listens
to the applicant and consults her spirit guides for what
is needed. Sometimes followup work is needed to assist
smooth integration of the results of a healing ceremony.
